Introducción
Mining is a skill that allows players to extract ores, gems, rune essence and other resources from rocks in mines throughout RuneScape. To increase your Mining level, you will need to mine ore from rocks. All the different ores come from different colored rocks that are roughly based on the ore, e.g. a Mithril rock would be blue in color.
As your Mining level increases, mining will become quicker. When you have mined a rock, the ore will disappear and the rock will become a light gray color and you will then have to wait for it to respawn.
Pickaxes
To mine, you will need a pickaxe. The better the pickaxe, the faster you will be able to mine the ores. In addition to the Mining level requirement to use, pickaxes also require a certain Attack level to be able to wield it. Most pickaxes are sold by a Dwarf named Nurmof in the Dwarven Mines. Bronze pickaxes can also be bought from most general stores for 1 gp. Below is a list of pickaxes. The Inferno adze, received when you have lit all the beacons in the Beacon Network, acts as both a Rune pickaxe and Dragon axe.

Special Types of Pickaxes:
With the points gained from the Stealing Creation Activity you can buy a Violate or Morphic tool. These can be turned into a Sacred clay pickaxe. A Violate tool will randomly turn into a new tool and give 120% extra experience before it disintegrates. On the other hand, a Morphic tool will turn into the tool of your choice, but only give 100% extra experience before it disappears.

Resource Dungeons
At certain dungeoneering levels, you will be able to unlock resource dungeons, some of which have more mining rocks inside them. These are a great advantage, as they normally have more rocks, or rarer rocks, inside them.
Location | Image | Dungeoneering level required |
Detailed Location | Contents | Members only |
Dwarven Mines | 15 | Located near the scorpions and coal, outside the Mining guild | 5 dwarf (level 10), a bank deposit box, 3 Silver rocks, 13 Coal rocks, and 6 Mithril rocks | -
Mining Guild | 45 | Near the 4 ladders going up to Falador | 8 Mithril rocks, 4 Adamantite rocks, and 3 Runite rocks | -
Al Kharid mine | 75 | Found between the silver and iron rocks on the western side of the mine | 9 Silver rocks, 11 Gold rocks, 7 Gem rocks, and 5 Impling spawns |
Dwarven Stout
There is a way to temporarily raise your Mining level. Go to the bar in Falador, and talk to the barmaid. Order a Dwarven stout (they cost 3 Coins each). When you drink it, your Mining level will temporarily go up by 1, as will your Smithing level. Drinking the stout will also lower some levels, but they will restore within a few minutes. These are also available free in the Dwarven pass under the Wolf Mountains (must have completed Fishing Contest to access) between Taverley and Catherby. It is also possible to brew Dwarven stouts, which may occasionally produce a Dwarven stout (m); these add two to your Mining and Smithing levels.
Gems
Sometimes when you are mining, you will find a gem. These can either be sold or cut and used to craft amulets and the like. The higher the level needed to mine a rock, the higher the chance of finding a gem. You will also find more gems if you are wearing an enchanted dragonstone Amulet of Glory (members only). Members can mine gems at the Shilo Village mine inside the walls (must have completed Shilo Village Quest), which yields only gems (any gem from opals to diamonds).
Shilo Village Gem Mine
This is a members-only feature. If you have completed the Shilo Village Quest, you will gain access to some gem rocks. Mining each gem yields 65 Mining experience. The rocks randomly yield uncut Jade, Opal, Red Topaz, Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, or Diamond gems.
Mining Guild
The Mining Guild is located in Falador and attached to the Dwarven Mines. You need level 60 Mining to enter. Inside, there are 37 Coal rocks and 5 Mithril rocks.
Shooting Star
In the Shooting Star Distractions and Diversions, you hunt the surface for fallen meteorites. By using a telescope in the study of a player owned house, you may predict where the next star in going to land. Once you have spotted the star, you can start mining it. Each layer requires a certain Mining level to be mined, with a minimum of level 10 Mining. While mining you will receive mining experience and Stardust. When you have mined it down to its core, a Star sprite will be released. Talk to this creature to exchange your stardust for a reward. Star sprites can only reward you once per day, and you can only carry or have in the bank a maximum of 200 Stardust at any time.
Arzinian Gold Mine
Requirements: Between a Rock... quest
Items Needed: Golden helmet, Pickaxe, and possibly 4 coins for ferry trips.
Items Recommended: Ring of charos (a), Amulet of glory, and a Chisel (allows you to cut the mined gems for Crafting XP).
Instructions:
- Put on your golden helmet and talk to Dondakan. He will fire you into the mine.
- Mine 27-28 Gold ore
- Unequip your helmet or disconnect and log bato leave (Disconnecting allows you to keep your helmet on and mine 28 Gold ore, but may be slower).
- Head east across the footbridge to the Dwarven Boatman standing by a boat.
- Hand over your gold ore, which he will bank for you.
- Repeat 1-5 until you have all the gold you want.
Note: Near the Dwarven Boatman, there is a small hut that you may enter (with the completion of The Giant Dwarf quest) to gain access to the bank. Although it takes longer to get to the bank by travelling this way, you keep your gold instead of giving oatman.
Dwarven Boatman Price:
The Dwarven Boatman takes one ore off the top and one more for every 5 gold ore you give him (rounded down). The maximum number of ore you can mine per trip is 28, although it is recommended that you only mine 27. If you mine 28 ores, you must leave the area by logging out and back in, which can be time consuming. If you leave one empty slot, you can simply unequip your helmet when you want to leave.
The following table summarizes his price:
Number of Gold You Bring | Cost |
1 to 4 Gold Ores | 1 Gold Ore |
5 to 9 Gold Ores | 2 Gold Ore |
10 to 14 Gold Ores | 3 Gold Ore |
15 to 19 Gold Ores | 4 Gold Ore |
20 to 24 Gold Ores | 5 Gold Ore |
25 to 28 Gold Ores | 6 Gold Ore |
Why "Ring Of Charos(a)"?
This Ring provides two key benefits:
- You do not need to pay the Dwarven Ferryman, so you can leave those 4 GP for ferries behind and carry one more ore per trip.
- The Dwarven Boatman will give you a discount on his services.
Number of Gold You Bring | Cost |
1 to 9 Gold Ores | 1 Gold Ores |
10 to 19 Gold Ores | 2 Gold Ores |
20 to 28 Gold Ores | 3 Gold Ores |
If you have completed the King of the Dwarves quest, then you now have access to the Lava Flow Mine. Your job is to keep the plant running at all costs. It is located in the east of Keldagrim. Once you arrive speak to Foreman Jaak and ask him how you can help out.
The mine is made up of four channels of lava, split into eight sections each. The lava, however, is at melting point, so if it cools, a crusty layer will be formed on top of it. Your aim is to mine this crust away. To aid you, Foreman Jaak can tell you which channel the current blockage is in, but you'll have to find out the particular segment for yourself by checking the flow gauges that run into them.
You're free to mine ANY segment at any time, as any crust mining keeps the lava flowing, but you'll get more XP if you mine segments with lower flow rates, as shown in the table below.
Flow rate | XP Per Crust Mine |
100% | 50 |
90% | 60 |
80% | 70 |
70% | 80 |
60% | 90 |
50% | 100 |
That's not all though. While mining, you may come across the following distractions and diversions:
- Boiler breakages:
When the chaos dwarves attacked, they broke a number of the boilers, which sometimes overheat. You will need a Smithing level of between 70 and 90 to combat this, and a hammer. If you forget the hammer, there is a spawn near the Mine entrance. Multiple people fixing the boilers will fix it quicker, however, you will not earn any more or less experience.
- Finding gems:
As with regular mining, there's a chance that you may find some precious gems while mining the crust!
- TzHaar hero and lava monster:
If you slow down the lava monster down long enough for the TzHaar hero to catch up with it, everyone in the mine will have double the chance of finding gems for the next 10 minutes!
- Possessed pickaxe:
Defeat the possessed pickaxe of a dwarven spirit in combat and the ancestor will 'add his mining spirit' to your own pickaxe for 10 minutes, giving you a 10% Mining XP boost.
- Liquid Gold Nymph:
If the Liqid Gold Nymph decides to visit you, she will offer you pieces of a golden mining outfit each time she appears. When you have a completed outfit, she'll instead offer you either some Mining XP or the chance to gild a pickaxe you have either equipped or in your inventory. Should you wish to remove the gilding, Foreman Jaak can do just this. Note:The Inferno Adze and Sacred Clay pickaxes cannot be gilded
Rewards
Each piece of the golden mining outfit gives you a boost to any Mining XP you earn. The more parts of the set you wear, the more of a boost you'll acquire. By wearing the whole set, you can gain a maximum boost of 2.5%. The boosts for each individual item are shown in the table below:
Item | XP Boost |
Golden mining boots | 0.2% |
Golden mining gloves | 0.2% |
Golden mining helmet | 0.4% |
Golden mining trousers | 0.6% |
Golden mining top | 0.8% |
Note: The Golden mining helmet can also be worn to enter the Arzinian gold mine. Also, if you already have the full set of Golden mining armor, and already have your pickaxe gilded, you can still obtain a further reward from the Nymph: ask her if she has anything other than gold - you will get "Mining advice" which means 2500 Mining XP!
Fast Money and Experience
Requirements: The Lost Tribe quest and a Mining level of at least 15.
Items needed: Pickaxe, Light source, and a Tinderbox
Instructions:
- Getting to the Mines:
- Go to Lumbridge Castle carrying your Pickaxe, Light source, and Tinderbox
- Open the trapdoor in the kitchen of the castle, climb down the ladder and walk to the east side of the cellar.
- Squeeze through the hole and follow the path until you reach Kazgar. Talk to him and ask him to show you the way through the mine.
- Once you have done this you will appear at the mine right next to Mistag Mistag.
- Mining the Ores:
- You can mine Iron or Silver ores in the mine.
There are more silver ores, and Mistag will pay you much more for them, so it is recommended that you mine silver instead of iron if you have 20 mining. However, iron will prove easier to mine.
- Selling Ores to Mistag:
- Mistag will pay you 13.6 coins per Iron ore, rounded down. It is best to sell to him in multiples of five to get the most coins. He will pay you a much more rewarding 60 coins per Silver. Below is a table for easy reference of what Mistag will pay for your ores. If you have an amount not shown in the table, such as 17, you can add the coins for 10 ores and 7 ores to get the amount Mistag will pay you.

If you have an amount not shown in the table, such as 17, you can add the coins for 10 ores and 7 ores to get the amount Mistag will pay you.
- When you have sold the ores, you can carry on mining until the amount of money or mining experience you desire is achieved. There is no need to bank since you aree selling the ores and no inventory space is used up. Also, if you do not attacking the cave miners and guards there, then you will not need any food (the Cave goblin miners are combat level 11 and the Cave goblin guards are level 24).
- If you wish to leave, then talk to Mistag and ask him to lead you back out of the mine. He will bring you right next to Kazgar. Squeeze trough the hole to the northwest and you will end up in the Lumbridge Castle basement. If you have done part of the Recipe for Disaster, then you can bank right here at the chest, otherwise, walk to the west side of the cellar and go up the stairs. If you have not partly completed this quest and wish to bank, then head to the bank on the top floor of the castle.
